Through the Looking-Glass and what Alice found there by Lewis Carroll. Octavo. Published by Macmillan and Co, London 1872. First edition, first impressiom. Half Green morocco over green cloth boards. Raised bands to spine in six compartments lettered and blocked in gilt with decorative motifs of characters from the book . Ruled in gilt. Includes the misprint 'wade' for 'wabe' in the Jabberwocky poem on page 21. This is not partcularly significant as all copies of the first impression have this misprint. Copy editing Lewis Carroll's Alice books must have been a challenge but why someone would think the word 'wabe' was a misspelling but 'outgrabe' was correctly spelt is something of a mystery. ThisĀ error was amendedĀ in later impressions and 'wade' was replaced with 'wabe'.
