Sir John Tenniel's own solid silver ash tray and vesta (match) case embossed with the Punch front cover illustration and his JT monogram and date 1899 engraved on the scroll of paper that for the magazine used to denote issue and date. Solid silver vesta case with Doyles Punch magazine design in enamel to front.
Tenniel smoked a pipe for most of his life and was given the ash tray and vesta case by Punch in recognition of his contributions to the magazine.
A pair of unique personal objects
Provenance by family descent and purchased at Lawrences Auctioneers Crewkerne.
